When I protest fur, they say “What about leather?” Who’s to say I don’t care about leather? Of course I do! I’m a vegan, damnit. I’m a little taken aback by some of the responses I’ve been getting to my protest coverage.

➡ Here’s a little background: I was angry when fur came “back” into fashion, so I started my own #furfree organization Fur Free LA two years ago. I hold my own protests and organize huge online campaigns and petitions all on my own time and money. It’s hard work, time consuming, and costly, but nothing gives me greater pleasure than to be a voice for the voiceless.

When I thought I wasn’t doing enough, I started @vegansofig. I’m not trying to toot my own horn here, but I’ll be 25 next week and I’ve already got FIVE stores to stop selling fur. I’m nowhere close to where I’d like to be.

Just look at Nathan Runkle, the man in a legend. If you don’t like what’s happening with the leather industry, then do something about it. If you’re a vegan, you’re already doing something, but if you’ve got the audacity to imply that my targeted and effective campaigns are somehow forgetting other animal issues, then you need to be quiet.

Seriously. What if I was an activist for breast cancer? Would that mean I don’t care about lung cancer? No. Well, what about the children in Africa?! What about AIDS?!! What about World hunger??!!! O.M.G. They’re important issues, but they’re irrelevant to the issue at hand.

If you’re still angry after your online comments, then take on a cause like I’ve done with fur. Take to the streets, not your iphone keyboard. I’ll even help you out, but I will not bicker with my own kind. Okay?
