If you remember, a few months ago Dolls Kill promised me they would stop selling real fur. I spoke to Bobby, one of their representatives, and he gave me his word. (I recorded our conversation so they cannot deny it).
I’ve been checking their website daily, and they’re still for sale. This is truly unfortunate. They told me that they were really concerned about animals welfare, but if they really were, they would NOT continue to sell foxtails.
This is a classic case of greed over compassion and we need to let them know this is not okay.
Tweet to them at @DOLLSKILL. Ask them to go #furfree.
Please visit furfreela.com/dollskill for full details on the campaign.

I’m sorry, but there is NO such thing as a “humane death.”
I’m grossed out after reading your reblog. It’s missing the entire point of this post AND out of any of my blog posts, you had to choose the photo of myself (as a child) talking about NOT eating your pets and making the connection between food and animals.
If you kill animals. You do no love them. Period. A “quick death” doesn’t make it any better. Nor is it a happy one- that’s a joke. That hen could have lived upwards of a decade, and now she is gone forever. People get grossed out that in Asian countries they eat dog. Well, what’s the difference between a dog or a pig or a chicken? They’re all animals. They all deserve a life.

This is me at nine years old with one of my pet chickens, Carrie. Because of her crown of feathers, she was my hippie chick. I adopted my first hens when I was seven. Seeing as the chicken we eat isn’t called bacon or a hamburger, it didn’t take long for me to figure out that eating chicken meant eating my friends. So at age seven I stopped eating chicken. A few years later I went vegetarian, and at 15 I went vegan.
Animals have always been a huge part of my life. I’m surprised I didn’t go vegan sooner, but I just wasn’t aware what veganism was. I share this photo for two reasons.
1⃣  Teach your children compassion for all animals. My parents weren’t vegetarian at the time, but knew I loved animals ( farm animals included) and let me follow my heart. They let me have them as pets and supported my decision not to eat them.
2⃣  Chickens are awesome! They’re beautiful creatures. Each of my hens had their own personality. They were very clever, and seeing as they were raised by hand, very affectionate to me. My hens did lay eggs, but only a few eggs a week. Egg laying hens in factory farms are genetically modified to lay eggs every day, when they’re only supposed to lay 60 eggs per year. Because of this, their lives are dramatically shortened. My oldest hen Bixie, lived to be twelve years old.
Let me tell you, laying an egg is not a simple task. My hens would wake me up in the morning because they’d crow their little heads off when they were passing an egg. Eggs are essentially a chicken’s period. That grossed me out, so I never ate them. (You can only have baby chicks if there is a rooster to fertilize them.) Male chicks are useless since they can’t lay eggs, so they’re thrown into the grinder. It bothers me that chickens and other farm animals are considered stupid. They’re not. They’re lovely creatures, give chicks a chance! #vegansofig

[OP, this post condones meat eating, just fyi. But it is not meant to attack or offend you. Just sort of explaining my own reasoning, not as a rebuttal to the idea of veganism or anything. Just talking to myself, as it were.]

I love chickens so much. So very much. I want to have a chicken coop like I did when I was younger, because they’re just so fun and sweet and easy to tame. They have great personalities, and they’re just really beautiful birds.
However.
I would still eat chicken.
And I don’t mean, like, buy a vaccuum-packed plucked chicken at the supermarket.
I would eat MY own birds. Yes, my pet chickens. Yes, my friends. I would eat them.
I would cry and hold their bodies and apologize. But I would kill and eat them.
Why?
Because chickens are, for me, food.
Before you start, no, they’re not “intended” to be food for humans. I don’t hold with that anthropocentric nonsense. They weren’t ‘created for us to eat’ or any such thing. They are just edible. And I like to eat them.
And what better way to ensure the poultry on my plate is free-range, organic, well-cared for and lived a happy life… than to raise it, care for it, love it, make it happy, then kill it as quickly and painlessly as possible, ritually prepare and cleanse the body, and eat it, all myself?
Not to mention the /intensely/ spiritual realm of energy transfer that is such a big part of food for me, whether it’s animals or plants, and the way it is almost a form of reincarnation.
The kindest thing I could do as a person who wants to eat chicken is to raise and love them myself before they become prey. I can take responsibility to give them a happy life and a clean, quick death.

vegansofig:

The LA Vegan Beer and Food Fest is coming up. @chaseselby suggested we do a @vegansofig meetup, and I thought that was a great idea since most of the LA vegans I know will be there. I’ve never done a meetup before, but I think it could be fun.
The exact meeting spot is still TBA, but I will let you know. Here I am holding the sign that I’ll have with me. My name’s Amy (@labellenuage) so if you’re not sure who to look for, keep an eye out for me. Also, my organization @furfreela will be holding a protest the following day at INTERMIX in Brentwood. It would be great if you can make that too. Okay! See you guys there :) #vegansofig

Check out my new project! Vegans of Instagram. Here’s my latest vegan/cruelty free beauty review. :)
vegansofig:

I had several requests from earlier today to review some vegan, cruelty free beauty products. If you follow my main account @labellenuage, you’ll know that when it comes to clothes and makeup, I’m a bit of a girly girl. You don’t have to give that up going vegan. I’m also a picky vegan, so I only want the best. I really only bother with products that smell good to me. I like coconut and vanilla scents. There are A LOT of products to discuss, but I’m going to highlight a select few to get you going. Any other questions, just ask me, and I’ll try to cover them. Guys I’ll do a cruelty free men’s guide too, but there are some products here for you too! x
1⃣  LAVANILA Deodorant. (Vanilla coconut is my favorite)
2⃣  Hurraw Lip Balm (Beeswax free lip balm!)
3⃣  Pacifica Perfume and Lotions (They’re not a completely vegan brand, but most of their products are, so read the back.)
4⃣  Too Faced Teddy Bear Hair Brush Set ( All synthetic- no animal hairs used.)
5⃣  Urban Decay Cheek Tint. Vegan + Cruelty Free (All of their products are cruelty free, but look for the Marley Paw print to see which of their products are vegan.)
6⃣  Alba Botanical Shave Foam (Best shave foam and scent I’ve found- good for guys and gals)
7⃣  Gabriel Cosmetics (Vegan and cruelty/paraben Free- You can find Gabriel at Whole Foods) Hope that helps! #vegansofig
